The Magic Flute
The Karen
Rae Kraut shares a storyteller's version of Mozart's
last opera, The Magic Flute, based on folklore and fictional
sources popular in Mozart's time. Kraut is joined
by opera singer Mark Almy, with musical direction by Paul Cracciolo,
who had added elements of Mozart's brilliant musical
score and segments of some of the most engaging arias from
this work, which caught on with the public immediately upon
its opening on September 30, 1791. The music sparkles with
charm, humor and folk song influences, which make it as hummable
as a Broadway musical. Almy sings multiple roles: the
charming Prince Tamino, the comic side-kick and bird catcher Papageno, and the
regal high priest of Isis, Sarastro. Kraut breaks into song as Princess
Pamina, the Queen of the Night, and the bird girl, Papagena. Music,
laughter and the triumph of true love over the forces of darkness
make this an engaging introduction to the world of opera. For
